Jan 25 & 26: Urban Growth Area Public Hearing

Last September, the Central Puget Sound Growth Management Hearings Board directed Kitsap County to reconsider the size of their Urban Growth Areas.  The hearings board opinion was that Kitsap County violated the Growth Management Act by reducing its minimum urban density from 5 units per acre to 4 units per acre. The Board believes hat results in Urban Growth areas that are to large.

This decision focuses on two issues:

  • What is an appropriate minimum urban density for single family residential zones in Kitsap County?
  • What density should Kitsap use when calculating the amount of urban area or land capacity necessary to accommodate population growth through 2025?

The County has scheduled two meetings to get public input on their proposed alternative.
