Robin Hood Village Resort in Union has been fined $12,000 by the Washington Department of Ecology for failing to obtain a shoreline permit before erecting four rental units on the shoreline of Hood Canal.Paula Ehlers of Ecology said the owner, Darin Barry, was notified of the permit requirements in an April 5 letter and during a follow-up meeting. He was given the option of applying for a permit or removing the four units, which are a type of permanent RV setup. Barry has done neither, contending he does not need a permit.
Each of the four units is considered a separate violation and could be subject to a penalty of $1,000 a day. The owner has the option of appealing the penalty.
