Poulsbo’s urban growth area questioned again

PORT ORCHARD — The size of Poulsbo’s urban growth area has come under attack again in proceedings before the state’s Growth Management Hearings Board.

The county made a mistake by not including Poulsbo in recent changes to the comprehensive plan, according to two parties who appeared before the board in a hearing Tuesday in Port Orchard.

In August, the Kitsap County commissioners reduced the size of several urban growth areas in the county following an extensive analysis by county planners. The review was mandated by the courts and the growth board following a challenge by the Suquamish Tribe, Kitsap Citizens for Responsible Planning and South Kitsap resident Jerry Harless.

  1. No true, Poulsbo UGA area was not revised in 2006. That entire area remained unchanged from the approved 2005 comp plan. The only thing that was remained was the 2006 plan, not earlier versions.
