A lake management district is being proposed to help control weeds at Long Lake.
What: The Kitsap County commissioners will consider a resolution to authorize a public hearing and election on a lake management district, a special taxing district, made up of properties on or near Long Lake in South Kitsap.
When: 5:30 p.m. Monday
Where: Kitsap County Administration Building, 614 Division St., Port Orchard.
Citizens for Improving Long Lake is proposing to form a lake management district, a taxing district of property owners around the lake, to pay for weed control maintenance over the next 10 years. All property owners within district boundaries will get to vote on whether to approve or reject the proposal.
The Kitsap County commissioners will consider a resolution to set the process, allowed under state law, in motion on Monday The resolution calls for a public hearing on April 28, for lake residents to comment on particulars of the proposal, including district boundaries, tax amounts and scope of work.
