“Inslee seeks cap on carbon emissions” (Sun 7-29-15) should be a warning to voters in Washington state. The Governor is taking an “end-run” around our state lawmakers. Both Houses in the legislature refused to even bring his measure to cap carbon emissions to a vote. So Governor Inslee has directed Ecology Director, Maia Bellon to develop a greenhouse gas emissions reduction plan.
Ah yes, If the legislature won’t pass the law, turn to the regulators. Regulators are nothing more than unelected bureaucrats who are not accountable to the people. The trouble is that their regulations have the power of the law and are binding on all citizens.
I thought that the state Constitution created three branches of government. We, the people, should not tolerate a fourth branch of government. If the legislature did not pass Governor Inslee’s proposal, it should be dead until and unless the legislature passes it.
